English Music for a Jubilee

  • THE Queen's Jubilee year may be drawing to a close but the celebrations are not over yet - especially in Bewdley.

The town is the venue for a special fund-raising concert, with English Music for a Jubilee featuring some of the most well-known Coronation music, next/this weekend.

The evening, in St Anne’s Church, on Saturday, November 3, marks a return appearance by Worcester choir, The Elgar Chorale, with special guest organist Lee Dunleavy, Director of Music at All Saints, Nothampton, making his debut there.

“Christmas is coming and you may have thought the Jubilee is all over - but it’s not,” says Chorale member and Bewdley resident Heather Fairs who has helped to organise the concert at the church.

“The Diamond Jubilee combined with the amazing Olympics and Paralympics lifted the nation’s spirits and gave everyone a much needed boost.

“Our concert, with works like Zadok the Priest and Parry’s I Was Glad aims to recapture that sense of celebration, providing a welcome tonic in the darkening days of winter just before all the Christmas festivities.”

All proceeds from the evening, due to begin at 7.30pm, will go to The Children’s Society. Tickets cost £10 (£8 concessions) and under 16s are free if accompanied by an adult.  They are available on the door or can be booked online at www.elgarchorale.com.
