Following on from the success the Melbourne International Singers Festival (MISF) which has just celebrated its 6th year, The BISF is delighted that internationally acclaimed composer Mr. Kirby Shaw (USA) will again be making the trip down under, presenting his extraordinary workshops and concerts.
Kirby Shaw is an internationally renowned composer, arranger and jazz singer with over 2500 choral arrangements and compositions in print. Kirby’s music is performed around the world and has sold nearly 20 million copies. His most recent commission was with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. Kirby will be presenting workshops and concerts to prepare and conduct his own arrangements in “Puttin’ On the Ritz”.
Festival Director, Dr. Jonathon Welch AM said, “Brisbane has always had a special place in my heart as I studied at The Conservatorium as a young opera singer. To be able to present the BISF to Brisbane audiences makes my heart sing!
“As part of the festival, we invite singers to join our un-auditioned massed choir, the Absolutely Everybody Festival Choir, with exceptional conductors including Dr Kathleen McGuire. Singers will enjoy singing fabulous Kirby Shaw arrangements in “Puttin’ On the Ritz” and perform two of the School of Hard Knocks amazing new original works - Street Requiem in memory of those who have died innocent on our streets and No Excuses! (for women only) singing out against domestic violence.”
During the festival Queensland Choirs also have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to work with Dr Kirby Shaw in a one-hour MASTERCLASS. Limited spaces are available, so we encourage registration as soon as possible for this fantastic opportunity.
Proceeds from the Brisbane International Singers Festival will support the School of Hard Knocks and its provision of arts and cultural programs to the marginalised and vulnerable.
Come and be a part of it. We promise an outstanding weekend and know singers will enjoy the bonus rehearsals in the lead up to the Festival.
