CRAZY LITTLE THING CALLED QUEEN – THECHO!R sings for a cure to cancer!!!

  • Celebrating the timeless music of Freddie Mercury and Queen, THECHO!R presents CRAZY LITTLE THING CALLED QUEEN at the Thornbury Theatre on Sat 20th September at 8pm and Sunday 21st September at 2pm.

THECHO!R, created by award winning conductor Dr Jonathon Welch AM in 2009, presents their second SING FOR A CURE concert, supporting the amazing work of the new St Vincent's Cancer Centre in Melbourne.

THECHO!R will be joined by special guest soloist/entertainer DANIELLE MATTHEWS, hot on the heels of her recent one-woman SHIRLEY BASSEY tribute show. She will take on the dynamic vocal role of lead singer Freddie Mercury.

Guest conductor for the concert is Dr Kathleen McGuire, who also created custom vocal arrangements for most of the program especially for THECHO!R. Songs include such classics as Bohemian Rhapsody, Killer Queen and Somebody to Love, plus many other massive Queen anthems. McGuire, who recently returned to Australia following two decades building her career in the US, remarked: "I'm thrilled to be conducting THECHO!R. This music - with its rich, sophisticated harmonies - really lends itself to exciting, choral interpretation. I recently lost a dear friend to cancer, so this event is close to my heart as we raise important funds for cancer research."

The 130-voice choir, embracing the glam-rock era, will be accompanied by a full rock band. The Thornbury Theatre features cabaret-style seating at tables. Tickets and tables can be booked at: www.thethornburytheatre.com

    THECHO!R

Created in February 2009 by Dr Jonathon Welch AM, THECHO!R is now Melbourne’s largest unauditioned community Choir with up to 150 singing members from all walks of life, ranging in age from 18 to 85, sharing not only the joy of singing, but a common passion to support other communities through THECHO!R’s fundraising activities.

Sing For a Cure is a project that Jonathon long wanted to produce, using music to not only raise awareness and funds for cancer research, but more than that, to help give the community a voice when words seem to fail or have the same resonance for those who suffer and we have lost. Many members of THECHO!R have experienced cancer, either as brave survivors or have loved ones or friends that have been affected, and who have found a wonderful place to find healing and solace through music and singing with THECHO!R.
