Music for the Soul
The Hutt Valley Singers have spent winter evenings working on a programme for their next concert coming up on Sunday, 24th August.
‘You Raise Me Up’ is a concert of uplifting songs written by composers from a number of centuries including the likes of Palestrina, Purcell, and Mendelssohn, through to living composers including Eric Whitacre, and an arrangement by pianist Karen Boyce of Sting’s ‘Fields of Gold’.
The main work is a Cantata for choir and solo tenor by American composer Adolphus Hailstork called ‘I Will Lift up Mine Eyes’ and features Tenor Soloist John Beaglehole.
The choir will be joined by three children who will perform solo’s they recently sang to compete in the Hutt Valley Performing Arts Competition, including Riley Dick who was awarded the trophy for most promising under 16.
Musical Director Joanne Roelofs says ‘The choir have worked really hard on some more challenging but beautiful pieces for this concert, and are looking forward to presenting what we aim to be a very inspiring afternoon’.
