ALBION - Cakes and Concert

  • Cakes and a Concert

    Saturday 2 May 2015 at 4pm
Holy Trinity Church, Millhouses S7 2GY

A special concert of collaborations and cakes…

Albion’s only performance in Sheffield in the first half of 2015 – and it’s a unique one!

“Stunning. Hits the emotions like no other pure sound. Go and hear them – they are totally unique” – Audience comment, 2014

And now for something completely different… A special concert that kicks off at teatime and features afternoon tea with sumptuous cakes alongside a musical feast! Pull up a chair, help yourself to a cake, and get ready for a musical mix that’ll be unlike anything you’ve heard before.

The concert is given jointly by ALBION, COMPANY, and special guest star NICK FLETCHER.

COMPANY is the new group of singers formed by previous participants in Albion’s choral workshops. Having worked together in a series of workshops over the spring, this will be their first public appearance as a group. They promise a mix of familiar and fresh repertoire inspired by Albion’s unique background. ALBION themselves, in advance of festival appearances around the country, present some of their new songs for 2015. As our only Sheffield concert this year so far, it’s a special chance for us to share our new material with you, and one or two old favourites of course. NICK FLETCHER, the classical guitarist, is a true Sheffield star, with several acclaimed solo records and over fifty original compositions to his name. His music is heard regularly on BBC Radio 3 and Classic FM, and his playing is warm and beautiful. We're excited that he'll be our special guest at this concert.

In all, it’s Albion plus – a new take on a much-loved idea, with the energy and beauty for which Albion’s performances have become known taking shape in a new way. You’ll be pleased to be here, at the birth of a new group and the continued flowering of another!

Tea and cakes are included in the ticket price. The concert lasts approx 90 minutes including time for cake and a wander.
