Following the dreadful fire in March earlier this year, Thomas's Choral Society are inviting the local community to raise their voice in support of this appeal to help fund the restoration process in the name of the 'Phoenix Fund'. We are putting on a 'Come and Sing' event on the weekend of the 13th and 14th June for anyone who may wish to join us. Led by the dynamic and talented Sam Evans, this one-off performance on the evening of the 14th June will be built on a Saturday workshop and afternoon rehearsal on Sunday.
We have chosen Handel's Messiah as the piece of this event, one which has a close connection to charitable giving from its first performance in Dublin in 1742. Sam Evans, Music Director and conductor for this performance, says: “Messiah is famous the world over, but has a cherished place in the cultural life of the UK. Despite its familiarity, the genius of Handel means there is always something new and fresh to discover in the piece. I hope this great work, and the cause we are supporting, will mean a performance that will be truly memorable for audience and singers alike.”
