Bridgnorth Baptist Church was full to capacity on Saturday night as Bridgnorth Choral Society performed a packed evening programme of traditional Christmas classics, modern and old favourites, interspersed with a good measure of well known carols, in which the audience were invited to participate! The publicity posters promised you would leave ‘in the mood for Christmas’ and the sell out concert certainly didn’t disappoint.
The Christmas concert followed a well attended, festive evening of carols, performed in the courtyard at Apley Farm Shop the previous week and particular highlights came from the Choral Society’s performance of David Willcock's dazzling arrangement of the Shaker hymn ‘Lord of the Dance’ and Michael Clawson's highly unusual but very beautiful alliance of The First Noel and Pachelbel's Canon in D which was superbly sung by the ladies of the choir.
This year’s concert also had the additional attraction of special guests, Oldbury Wells School Vocal Group ‘Encore’ who captivated the audience and showcased their young talent with two modern pieces, 'Someone Like You' by Adele and 'Break Even' by The Script featuring year 10 soloist, Danielle Evans.
Oldbury Wells’ Head of Music & Performing Arts Jo Dangerfield said "Performing with Bridgnorth Choral Society has added a new dimension to our repertoire and given us something special to work towards. Working with such an established choir was a privilege and we hope to be able to collaborate again."
Choral Society Musical director Derek Westwood reflected on what was a most enjoyable and successful evening with thoughts now to our Easter Concert, which will be taking place at the Bridgnorth Baptist Church on 31st March next year where we will be performing a sacred cantata ‘Olivet to Calvary’. Rehearsals reconvene on Friday January 6th. We always welcome new members and anyone interested in joining can contact Derek on 01746 861079.
