Moving Easter Performance

  • Bridgnorth Choral Society presented an emotional and moving performance of J H Maunder's Olivet to Calvary at their Concert of Easter Music on Saturday night. The piece depicted the last few days of Christ's life on earth, from his entry into Jerusalem and the Feast of Passover with Christ's commandment to  his disciples to 'Love one Another', to his Crucifixion at Calvary and included five solo performances from Jayne Davies, Melanie Holt, Steve Holland, Ron Vaughan and Bob Wilkinson.

Pastor, Stephen Derges reflected on the poignancy of the performance on the day before Palm Sunday and reminded the audience that the crucifixion was of course not the end of the story.

The concert, which was held at Bridgnorth Baptist Church, was well attended and also included pieces by Handel, Staines, Hugh Roberton and John Rutter as well as  Bach's Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring in which the flute solo was played by Rebecca Parker-Brittain.

The concert was particularly successful as it marked Sally Barras' first public performance as the Choral Society's new accompanist. Conductor and Musical Director, Derek Westwood spoke on behalf of all members of the Choral Society to congratulate and welcome her as a great asset to Bridgnorth Choral Society.
