[A version of this article first appeared as a post on my blog From the Front of the Choir]
Staring at a blank page waiting for the muse to strike. Slumped in a chair waiting to feel energised enough to go jogging. Feeling down and the last thing you want to do is sing.
Sounds familiar?
Next time, rather than waiting to feel the urge, take action and the feeling will follow.
Most of us wait until the desire to do something comes, but research has shown that desire often follows action. Act first and then you'll feel the desire.
Many is the time I’ve not felt like going to choir. It’s cold, dark and raining outside, and a long drive awaits. I’m feeling pretty miserable and the last thing on my mind is singing.
But it’s my job so I have to get on with it.
And always, minutes after the room starts singing, my spirits lift and I feel great!
So rather than waiting to feel happy before start singing, just sing and you will end up feeling happy.
Just do it!
