  • SHE IS THE RIVER

Corra Sound, directed by Amy Bebbington, with Gabriella Jones, harp

    Saturday 3rd December, 7pm

St Nicolas Church, Bury Street, Guildford GU2 4AW

A unique programme which highlights the power of the female voice, featuring glorious music for upper voices and harp.

This unique programme, highlighting the power of female creatives, features glorious and rarely-heard music written for upper voices and harp showcasing male and female composers from Britain, Norway and Canada. Corra Sound and Gabriella Jones bring this exciting programme to Guildford direct from the Ethelflaeda Festival at Romsey Abbey.

Of the Christmas programme, Director Amy Bebbington says:

Aiming to inspire and entertain our audience, the repertoire will feature festive additions including Winnie Bruckner’s enticing folksong The snow it melts the soonest (loved by our St Mary’s Church audience last Christmas), and Ola Gjeilo’s The Rose, which sets text by Christina Rossetti.

At this event, we will also feature three Canadian composers: Eleanor Daley, with her exquisite lullaby O my deare heart, Don MacDonald’s She is the River, which describes the power and flow of womankind, and Kelly-Marie Murphy’s triumphant work Hodie, Christus natus est, for voices and harp, which will finish the programme with a celebratory flourish.”

    About Corra Sound

“It is rare to find a choir that has such a good blend but also lets individual voices shine."

Corra Sound is a newly established all-female group of singers with a love for performing, discovering new repertoire and celebrating the works of remarkably talented and often little known female composers.

Comprising a blend of professionally trained and high level amateur voices, Corra Sound shares a passion for music written by and for women, exploring the reach and versatility of the female voice.

"Exciting, spell-binding, amazing skill and beautiful sound!"

With a reputation for high quality performance across a wide range of repertoire, Corra Sound has a unique identity which encompasses a broad range of vocal styles, bringing a deeply-rooted sense of heart, connectivity and passion to their performances. Corra Sound’s mission is to bring works by (predominantly) female composers out of the shadows and into the spotlight.

Based in Surrey, Corra Sound is directed by Amy Bebbington, conductor, choral clinician and teacher.
