Undertakes to be a space for youth have contact with concert choral music. The group sings a diverse and technically challenging repertoire, exploring different sounds and new musical languages. In his repertoire are works by composers as Janequin, Scarlatti, Bach, Beethoven, Whitacre, Widmer, Stroope, Jobim and Ronaldo Miranda. The styles range from classical to popular, jazz, spirituals, sacred music, Brazilian Popular Music, opera and musicals. Since its formation is conducted by Altamiro Bernardes and has Lana Bernardes as assistant conductor.
The choir members receive training in vocal technique, music reading, perception, music history, harmony and musical aesthetics, always in the context of choral activity and a language for young people. In addition to the concerts, the choir participates in educational activities such as educational concerts, workshops, lectures and conversations with professional musicians, conductors, teachers, singers, producers, etc. Our singers have participated in workshops with vocal groups "BR6" (Brazil) and "XCOR" (Venezuela), "Expression and Interpretation on the Stage" with the teacher, director and theater producer Odilon Mendes (Brazil) and with conductors Joaquim Paulo Espírito Santo (Brazil) and Jae-Joon Lee (Korea).
In September 2013 Jovem Canto took part at the opera chorus in the concert version of "Joanna de Flanders" by Carlos Gomes with Campinas Symphony Orchestra and maestro Victor Hugo Toro alongside great soloists of the Brazilian operatic scene.
In May 2014 held its first concerts abroad with a series of 10 concerts in Poland. Performed the opening concert of the 7th International "Edmund Szymanski" Choral Festival in the city of Murowana Goślina. The choir also opened the Festival "Academia Cantat" in Gdynia and Competed in the X International Choir Festival MUNDUS CANTAT, with groups from the Poland, Spain, Venezuela, Japan, Germany, Sweden, Czech Republic, Russia and Ukraine, receiving "Silver Certificate" at three categories : Sacred Music, Secular music and Gospel, Jazz and Spirituals. Jovem Canto is present in one track of the album "Singing For Birds", a CD exclusively made up of songs that have birds as a central theme, with the piece "Les Chant Des Oiseaux" by Clement Janequin (1485-1558).
