Two years after its founding, it was awarded 1st Prize at the 29th National Music Competition for Young Artists (NAMCYA... moreThe Samiweng Singers, the official SSAA choir of the Ilocos Norte National High School was officially founded in 2001 by Robert Caluya. Two years after its founding, it was awarded 1st Prize at the 29th National Music Competition for Young Artists (NAMCYA) held at the Cultural Center of the Philippines. The group performed in various events such as Miss Earth Pageant in 2003 and 2004. The group was also one of the featured artists in the Samu’t-Saring Tinig V at the Cultural Center of the Philippines; in a concert at the Clamshell in Intramuros in February 2003; and in the International Youth Music Festival sponsored by NAMCYA held at the CCP in December 2003. In 2004, the choir released its debut CD featuring Ilocano favourites and winning competition pieces. In 2005, the choir was handed over to its new conductor, Sherberk Cabrales. Under Sherberk’s directorship, the choir was adjudicated by internationally acclaimed jurors as Silver A certificate during the 1st CCP National Choral Competition last August of 2009. The choir also bagged the championship award during the University of the Philippines Namnama Choir Competition last December of 2009. The choir also performed as guest during the Tri-Regional National Music Competition for Young Artists (NAMCYA) which was held in San Fernando City, La Union.
At the latest, the group finally reaped its much awaited awards in the international scene. The choir was proclaimed as the over all winner (children's, youth choirs, and sacred music categories). Gold III Diploma and winner of the Children's choir category and; Gold IV diploma and winner of the Sacred Music Category during the 1st Vietnam International Choir festival and Competition 2011 in Hoi An, Vietnam last march of 2011. less
