Led by innovative and experienced choral conductors, this exciting new choir will rehearse weekly in the heart of Blackheath, and will perform locally and further afield, at a wide range of events and concerts.
Are you interested in being part of an exhilarating new group, performing everything from Tina Turner to Thomas Tallis? Let us answer some questions for you…
I’m new to singing in choirs. Does that matter?
Absolutely not! VOCALIZE: Blackheath welcomes singers of all abilities and experiences, and the songs will be taught in a variety of ways to suit each singer.
Is it OK if I can’t read music?
It’s not a problem at all. We anticipate that some people will read music fluently, and some won’t know their a cappella from their ensemble. Our skilled conductors will guide you through the music in a number of different ways, and before you know it, you’ll be singing in glorious harmonies.
Do I need to audition?
No, the choir is open to all singers. All we ask is that you turn up and be prepared to give it a go!
What will I be singing?
Adhering to VOCALIZE’s ethos of diversity, each term’s programme will comprise an array of songs in several different styles, all within a specific theme. So you might find yourself singing about food one term (think Madonna, Purcell, Verdi and the Chordettes) and the elements the next (taking in Carole King, Morley, Belinda Carlisle, Cuban folk music and more). Whatever the theme, we’ll keep you entertained!
Where will I be performing?
Just like the repertoire, VOCALIZE: Blackheath’s performances will take place in a range of locations. Some will be local, and an informal opportunity for you to show off your new skills to friends and family. Some will be at more high profile festivals in central London and beyond.
Who will be running the rehearsals?
VOCALIZE: Blackheath is led by Hilary Campbell and James Dixon, and accompanied by Andrea Kmecova. This dynamic team is sure to put you through your paces but ensure that you enjoy the rehearsal too!
