About Us: The choir was founded on November 10th, 2010 and is continuing its efforts by including in its repertoire polyphonic Turkish folk songs, choir pieces of different periods and Cyprus polyphonic choir pieces along with the world choir literature.
S... moreThe choir was founded on November 10th, 2010 and is continuing its efforts by including in its repertoire polyphonic Turkish folk songs, choir pieces of different periods and Cyprus polyphonic choir pieces along with the world choir literature.
Since its foundation, the choir is in continuous improvement and has been involved in many workshops with Prof.Mustafa Apaydın which were organized twice a year. The choir has a mixed membership including music teachers, musicians and amateur choir singers.
The choir’s name is inspired by the famous story written by William Shakespeare and Guiseppe Verdi’s famous opera called Othello and the Othello Castle which is located in the city of Famagusta. The city where the choir is based is known as “Othello’s City Famagusta” all around the world.
In the last six years since its formation, the Othello choir has given many concerts in Cyprus and also hosted festivals and choir workshops. The Othello choir is also working together with Mr.Mete Gökçe who is the choir conductor of Çanakkale 18th March University Konrul Vocal Ensemble and is receiving support on repertoire and choir settings. Othello Polyphonic Choir participated to the Çanakkale Choirs Festival over the past years with the motto “Othello in Troy” and received the appreciation of choir music fans.
Othello Polyphonic Choir went through a restructuration process in 2014 and founded Cyprus Polyphonic Choirs Association for the first time in Cyprus. All members of the association are composed of the members of the Othello Polyphonic Choir. In the upcoming days, the association will deliver joint choir projects by signing cooperation protocols with other choir associations in Turkey.
Pamukkale University Choirs Festival has been the second overseas choir festival of Othello Polyphonic Choir. In May 2014, the choir traveled to the city of Denizli with the motto “Othello in Hierapolis”.
Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus International Choirs Festival has been the third festival experience of Othello Polyphonic Choir. The choir has taken place as a supporter of our festival.
Cyprus Polyphonic Choirs Association Othello Polyphonic Choir has represented its country by taking place in the 3rd Çanakkale International Choirs Festival on 7-12 July 2015 again with the motto “Othello in Troy”. The choir has received great sympathy from the festival audience by performing four polyphonic folk songs of well-known Cypriot composer Oskay Hoca.
Currently in 2016, Cyprus Polyphonic Choirs Association and Othello Polyphonic Choir are carrying on their activities on new projects in order to further integrate themselves with the society they are based in. less
