Tomislav Veršić in the school year 1992/93 by merging two school ensembles founded a year earlier: Girls’ Choir, and traditional Dalmatian male vocal group (so-called “klapa”) “Šufit”. At the end of the following school year, the choir participated for the first time at the Croatian Youth Music Festival, choral competition which is traditionally held in Varaždin, thereby winning the Silver Plaque. In 1996 the performance of the choir at the same event was rewarded with Gold Plaque. After this success, the choir received new, more experienced members, and began to act as the Mixed Choir of Cultural and Artistic Association “Aspalathos”. Although new ensemble soon became well recognized and multiply awarded, it ceased to be a part of the school and thus of this historical review as well.
The choir continued its work under the name of “Marko Marulić” High School in the school year 2004/05. Since 2006 until now, the Choir has performed every year at the Croatian Youth Music Festival, the competition with the 65-year tradition, and has regularly won a Gold Plaque and 1st Place (2006-2018 and 2022 as four-part mixed choir; 2019 as three-part mixed choir; 2020-2021 the competition was cancelled), thus reinforcing the title of the best high school choir in Croatia. In 2012, 2013 and 2018 the choir has been awarded Croatian Composers' Society's Transitional Cup for the best performance of piece written by Croatian composer, whilst in 2013, 2015 and 2018 also took the title of absolute winner of the competition for being the highest-rated choir in all the categories. Along with many performances for the school and concerts in Split and the surrounding region, it is particularly worth to mention collaborations with other high school choirs which resulted in joint concerts:
- with “Antun Gustav Matoš“ High School Choir from Đakovo in 2006 and 2010;
- with “Annibale Mariotti“ High School Choir from Perugia (Italy) in 2015.
