Voxtet was founded by Martin Mikeš and his several friends. A year before, there was already a male vocal group consisting of six members called MIKE 6, the establishment of which was inspired by a US vocal group TAKE 6. Voxtet was basically formed by subsequent addition of female singers to MIKE6.
The formation of Voxtet started out with nine persons but, during the first three years, it ca
me down to the current six members. Most of the singers in Voxtet have their musical background in various choirs. Some of them still sing in Jihlava’s famous PS Campanula choir.
1999
Voxtet’s first concert took place on 31 May 1999 in Jihlava’s Horácké theatre. From then on, Voxtet’s performed at various minor events as well as its own big shows.
1999-2001
At the beginning, Voxtet was remarkable especially due to the absolute lack of a distinct dramaturgy. The main part of its repertoire was based on vocal transcripts of popular songs, folk, gospel and jazz songs. However, Voxtet’s repertoire currently tends to incline to vocal jazz music. Inspiration and motivation for Voxtet comes from foreign influences, for example TAKE 6, The Real Group, New York Voices, The Manhattan Transfer, The Swingle Singers, The Singers Unlimited and others.
2002
The most important concert so far was Voxtet’s 100th concert in Třešt’ on 30 November 2002. This concert was recorded for Voxtet’s first CD called „voxtet:live“ and was broadcast on Czech Radio Region.
2003
Voxtet recorded vocal tracks for the following songs: "White Christmas" and "Let it snow" on Lada Kummer's Christmas swing CD. All bigband and vocal arrangements on this CD were arranged by the famous Czech jazz bass player and composer Vinzent Kummer for his daughter Lada and all parts were recorded by great Czech jazz musicians!
Voxtet then sang in a number of TV and radio shows. In one of these TV shows, Voxtet performed together with a famous Czech jazzman and showman Jiří Stivín (he plays all kind of flutes and saxophones).
Voxtet had a concert tour in Sicily.
2004
Voxtet had an European concert tour in Belgium, France, Luxembourg and Germany in cooperation with Jean-Marc Poncelet and ICCM. Voxtet sang for Václav Klaus, the president of the Czech Republic. Voxtet invited a fantastic Australian vocal group called The Idea of North for their first performance in the Czech Republic.
2005
Voxtet bought a new digital mixing console and condenser microphones and since then have been able to make a much better sound on each and every concert! Voxtet invited a fantastic Canadian vocal male group called Cadence for their first performance in the Czech Republic.
2006
Voxtet had several concerts abroad (Germany, Austria, Slovenia). At the same time, Voxtet started preparations for its second, but this time studio, album, the working title of which is “Dotýkat se hvězd” (“Touching stars”).
2007
Besides making the second album, Voxtet have been very busy innovating its repertoire and cooperating with Bigband Polná on jazz songs performed in the style of New York Voices or Manhattan Transfer. One of Voxtet´s dreams came true when we finally purchased wireless microphones (AKG WMS 450 VOCAL SET C5). less
