Under the skilled direction of Howard Kane, who was appointed musical director in 2008, and ably assiSted by Robert Woods the choir has grown in size and reputation. Rehearsals Monday nights are rehearsal nights which are held in Frodsham MethodiSt Church, Kingsley Rd, WA6 6BA from 7.30pm to 9.30pm. New members are welcome to come along and give us a try. We rehearse from September through to July for our four main concerts, which are held in Frodsham, and also take our music to other venues in the area. In Oct of 2008 I returned to the Jes Church, the place I had grown up with my father running the folk mass choir. He had retired 12 years previously. What was once a packed out mass full of joy and prayer, families and young couples, singles and religious, was now a quieter mass with no choir and I saddened by this. I offered my services as a singer and musician to come and provide music for the 5:30 mass and within a few short weeks I returned to the place I consider my spiritual home. I had not purposely set out to Start a choir but people began to approach me with a desire to sing and it was a need within the community I was not going to Ignore. On the 12th Dec 2008 The Jes Gospel Choir was birthed with 5 singers and me & it was a wonderful experience and we received a very warm welcome. As a result of the love they had for choir music, they felt a need for a school choir to be eStablished. From the firSt year of its exiStence, choir was trained and prepared for the schools’ eiSteddfods by two fellow Students. In 1998, they both matriculated. In the following year these Students continued with the choir training and were compensated for their services by the School Governing Body (SGB). In 2001 they were snatched by nearby schools that were willing to pay them better wages and the SGB had to look for other people who could assiSt with choir training from the community. This continued until 2004, when the school employed a teacher who Studied music at university. In 2009 another teacher, who Studied music too, came and volunteered his services at the school.
