Members of ...  moreThe Virginia Wesleyan Chorale is a small, auditioned group at Virginia Wesleyan College in Norfolk, Virginia. The choir is composed of 16-20 singers from all majors who perform a variety of music, from classical, to folk, to contemporary jazz. Members of the Wesleyan Chorale also perform in the Wesleyan Singers, an open-enrollment ensemble that performs a variety of music while developing Vocal technique and musicianship skills.

What an unbearable pain! Oh, gracious God! What an unbearable sorrow! The third bell of the Cathedral just rang; The sun set long ago behind Mount Lopital... Mother Nature derailed, straining everyone to misery. Large structures and small rafts have turned to dust and ashes. Jesus, Marie, and Joseph... Grace and Mercy... Mother Nature derailed, straining everyone to misery. We see, but we don't understand, It happened so suddenly. The earth trembled! The earth shook harder than a desert's leaf. Help! Help! Rescue me, I beg you! I'm at a loss for words... Dies irae, dies illa; (Day of wrath, day of anger) Requiem aeternam dona eis, Domine. (Grant them eternal rest, Lord.) Haiti! Haiti! We are made up of 3 different choirs - Mixed Chorus, Treble Choir, and Concert Choir. All of our members are students at Port Huron Northern High School and range from 13-18 years of age. We all share a love of music and create joy through singing together.

The choir was formed in 2002 under the directorship of Ellie Davidoff. Choir membership consists of youth from the 8th grade through to college age students. Now in their 13th season, this choir has grown in membership as well as experience. There are still several original members, and every season they are joined by their younger siblings and new friends, who add strength and spirit to the group. The repertoire of the Vision of Peace Youth Choir consists of hymns and folk songs sung in the traditional Doukhobor acapella style that has been passed from generation to generation for over 200 years. The hymns and folk songs as well as the contemporary numbers in their program selection reflect their Doukobor beliefs as well as their steadfast wish for a peaceful existence on this earth.  less
