Described as ‘a fine body of singers’ by John Packwood in the Bristol Evening Post, they have delighted audiences with their fresh, inspiring interpretations of choral repertory from many centuries.
Members of the Choir come from many parts of the UK for intensive weekends of Music-making, culminating in concerts acclaimed for their invigorating choral sound, clarity of tone and texture, and innovative programming.
In June 2010 Harmonia Sacra were invited to perform a programme of Music by early seventeenth-century English Recusant Musicians (including William Byrd, Richard Dering and Peter Philips) for a Swansea University History conference at Oystermouth. Several months previous, a number of likeminded individuals began to visualise the formation of a Male Choir for the Lower Llynfi Valley, something which this area of the County Borough of Bridgend, South Wales lacked.
Following lengthy discussions with a number of experienced and well respected Choristers, we came up with some basic philosophies.
• Keep the Choir to a manageable size
• Take our Music to the community-at-large
• Establish ourselves as a quality Musical group
• Encourage less experienced Choristers to grow in ability and Musicality
• Share our joy in singing
One thing was fundamental, and that was to keep the Choir `Ego-Free` their mantra being ‘Leave your Egos at the door as it’s the Music that matters’.
Their desire was to form a group in which lasting friendships would grow and be nurtured, with an aim to bond and enjoy singing, and at the same time, perform to the community, raise money for charity and have lots of pleasure doing so.

You do need some Musical ability, but it's not essential to read Music. Rehearsals are in Wembdon, near Bridgwater, on a Tuesday evening.
