All members ...  moreInitially formed as part of a school-outreach program with the Quintessential Vocal Ensemble (QVE) in Newfoundland in 2009, Afterglow developed a love of 6-part a cappella music and began searching for new and challenging musical experiences. All members of QVE, the singers range in disciplines from Music to Engineering to the Arts. Afterglow performs frequently throughout St. John’s, including being featured guests on CBC Radio, local television, Festival 500, as well as community concerts and fundraisers. The group writes their own arrangements and began presenting full concerts last spring. Afterglow was one of 11 groups selected world-wide to partake in the Small Vocal Ensembles component of international biennial Festival 500 in July 2011. This will include masterclasses and individual coaching sessions with Bob Chilcott and Finnish group, Rajaton. Our repertoire spans all musical genres, from barbershop standards to jazz and Broadway musical standards through to Pop and Rock music from the likes of Queen, Michael Jackson and The Eurythmics. Whether you're looking for a place to sing with others, or searching for a dynamic chorus or quartet to perform at your next show or corporate event, GAC are the group for you. We are made up of around 60 women from all over Auckland, from a diverse range of backgrounds, ages and occupations who come together to share a love of singing and performing. A ladies' a capella four part harmony group we have our roots in barbershop but sing all sorts of music from old standards and barbershop classics to mega pop hits by groups like Abba and Queen. We perform sing outs for local groups in our area of Hampton in South West London, and take part in local fairs and festivals. Our weekly rehearsals on Wednesdays are a fun evening of singing, chatting and having fun together. We are always open to having new members. Experience is not required, nor is the ability to read music as we have 'teach tracks' with the songs in your part on (tenor, lead, baritone or bass) and access to these are given alongside sheet music. From time to time we run singing courses or open evenings for which there are no auditions.
