Moses Hogan (1957-2003) Spiritual Moses Hogan was an internationally renowned pianist, composer and arranger of choral music best known for his arrangements of spirituals. He studied with a full scholarship at Oberlin Conservatory of Music before continuing with his graduate studies at Julliard School of Music. He won several piano competitions during his performance years and published many CD's as well as songbooks. 'Hold On!' is an example of his 'soloist vs Choir' style of spiritual arrangements. There is a solo throughout that sings the primary lyrics and message of the song while the rest of the Choir provides a lively and energetic - often rhythmic - accompaniment. Recorded May of 2010 in the CWU music building concert hall. "Carpenters of God" was written specifically for the Chamber Choir's appearance at the 2010 NWACDA Conference. The composer talks about the inspiration for the piece (Weston Noble's visit to CWU in 2009) for the first 65 seconds. The piece is sung beginning at 1:05 in the video. The piece builds to climax at "For Thine is the Power and Glory forever!" and ends reflectively, savoring the "Amen".
