It is a tuneful and beautifully enchanting piece based on Christina Rossetti’s poem, ’Remember’, and would be at home either in concerts or services. David has dedicated this fine piece to a fine Yorkshire lady, Hannah Hauxwell, who sadly passed away as he was penning the work.

Lyrics: Matías Antón Mena
Music Arr.: Javier Busto
An absolutely romantic text that a man writes to his wife as a declaration of love. The piece was written for the 50th anniversary of the Habaneras Contest in Torrevieja, Spain. The musical writing has nothing of a traditional habanera. The constant habanera rhythm is not present but must be felt as an internal rhythm. What I have included is the alternation of minor and major modes so typical of habaneras.

(from Old Possum's book of practical cats)
The estate of T S Eliot would not let me use the poem itself as a choral piece.
So this is the choral version of the Jellicle music as a drinking song for SATB choir,
with new words by Jill Mitchell called "Praise to the Vine"

Using the words "we apologise" from then-Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd's historic 2008 apology to aboriginal Australians for past mistreatment, Davidson creates a beautiful soundscape by slowing the audio down by 250 times, the approximate ratio of aboriginal to modern presence in Australia. We use our voices to imitate this slow version. We then speed up the recording 250 times to see if we can hear Kevin Rudd's voice re-emerge. The result surprised us all! less
