The repertoire consists of a little bit of everything - madrigals, movies, musicals, spirituals, shanties, serious songs, silly songs - everything. From an educational standpoint, the Ensemble serves two main functions for the University. First, it acts as a laboratory for Hofstra’s future music educators, both undergraduate and graduate, providing outlets for the exploration of the art of Ensemble preparation through the study of the highest-quality choral literature. We are committed to building community through excellence in a cappella harmony, and we love to learn. We rehearse weekly to improve our vocal skills and build lasting friendships in the process. Although we have diverse backgrounds, our members thrive by working together to achieve shared goals. We sing a range of repertoire from jazz standards to 21st-century pop, barbershop to show tunes, but most importantly we sing a cappella. As well as entertaining audiences across the eastern suburbs of Melbourne we compete regularly in barbershop harmony competitions at a national level. Every Wednesday there's something for our synapses: Singing jazz grooves, clapping on 2 and 4, not to mention running back and forth while singing. And let's not forget: Always smile! Biography In 2005, the Women's choir was founded by Anja Schumann, who wields the scepter of musical art. Since then we diligently work on repertoire, refine the singing talents and laugh a lot.
