With a large repertoire ranging from art to popular music, and stretching from the medieval to the contemporary in style, this choir gives many concerts throughout the academic year, both in Ireland and abroad. Following a competitive selection process each September, eighteen gifted students are awarded a scholarship, with recipients of the award coming from a range of academic disciplines across the university, from Music to Medicine, Law, Agricultural Science, Commerce and Engineering. The choir regularly broadcasts on Irish television and radio. Since its formation in 1999, the group frequently performs with orchestras, including the RTÉ Concert Orchestra, the Earley Musicke Ensemble and the European Union Chamber Orchestra, and on the university campus with the UCD Symphony Orchestra and Philharmonic Choir. Music from every music epoch will be performed from serious to more pop/contemporary a cappella forms. This ensemble is offered every fall and spring semester, and satisfies the fine arts requirement when enrolled for a minimum of three semesters.

Diliup had orchestrated the music ...  moreThe Royal College school song written by late Principal H L Reed has been re-recorded by Kalasuri Diliup Gabadamudalige - an old Royalist, keeping in line with the original piano music score written by H L Reed himself. Diliup had orchestrated the music in terms of a classical orchestra and recorded it with the vocals of old Royalist Santhush Weeraman of B&S fame and the Royal College choir. The re-recording of the school song was an initiative taken by the Secretary RCU Manju Ariyaratne on the advice of the RCU Council together with the consent of Prinicipal Upali Gunasekra.  less

Named after a beautiful and rugged region in Terra Nova National Park, the choir celebrates it's 10th anniversary season in 2014-2015. This is a true community choir of more than thirty experienced singers representing the professions of music, teaching, engineering, law, civil service, marketing, information technology and journalism. Nearly one-half of the choir's singers are students from across many disciplines of study. Newman Sound has realized an ever-growing loyal audience, a high local, national and international reputation and a very bright future having established an exciting and eclectic repertoire across the genres of classical, pop and folk including some outstanding arrangements and original compositions by several of the singers within the choir.  less
