In mid-April, 2011, Ola spent 3 days on the Central Washington University Campus for a project in which he joined the Choir in ...  moreComposer/pianist Ola Gjeilo joins the CWU Chamber Choir (Gary Weidenaar, director) in presenting Gjeilo's "Northern LIghts". In mid-April, 2011, Ola spent 3 days on the Central Washington University Campus for a project in which he joined the Choir in recording 3 of his compositions. On this video, Gjeilo adds an improvised accompaniment (in a one-take rendition) to his composition "Northern Lights"-- which is published as an unaccompanied piece. Because of his view that improvising is a wonderful snapshot of artists "at that moment", the project was entitled "In the Moment". The other composition to which he created an improvised accompaniment was "Ubi Caritas". He also accompanied the Choir on "The Ground", which includes CWU's resident faculty quartet -- the Kairos String Quartet. The Choir continues the tradition of the Akademski pevski zbor v Ljubljani (Academic Choir of the University of Ljubljana) founded in 1926 by France Marolt, which consisted of male singers only. In the years between 1938 and 1940 Marolt also conducted the Female Academic Choir. After the cultural silence held during the Second World War, the Choir recommenced its activity, this time as a mixed Choir under a new name, Akademski pevski zbor Tone Tomšič. The Choir has always been led by recognized conductors such as: France Marolt, Radovan Gobec, Janez Bole, Lojze Lebič, Igor Lavrič, Marko Munih, Jože Fürst, Jernej Habjanič and Stojan Kuret.
