Since our first concert in 1995, Orpheus has presented a multi-concert subscription series each year to great critical acclaim. Orpheus has performed throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth area at venues including the regional conference of the American Choral Directors Association, the Dallas Museum of Art, the Kimbell Museum of Art, UT-Southwestern Medical Center, Children’s Medical Center-Dallas, and numerous public schools. Collaborations over its 30-year history have included Ars Lyrica Houston, Gramophone Award-winning Baroque scholar John Butt, Texas Camerata, jazz pianist Eric Barnes, hand drummer and international percussionist Jamal Mohamed, tanpura player Vatsal Dave, and many other outstanding instrumentalists. We sing challenging and rewarding music in a friendly committed environment with a wide range of ages and nationalities. We have a particular affinity for contemporary classical music, having won prizes for interpretation at home and abroad, and regularly present Irish premieres at our Dublin concerts.

This piece will always remain in my heart because it has been the result of the commission of very luminous people who have given me warmth while I was recovering from a hard setback of health. This work is the adventure of mutual support. We are lighting our way but the neighboring stars -those people who are our loved ones on any plane of existence- create and guide that way with more light than we are capable of perceiving.  less

Presenting many challenges, the 8 minute piece is based on an octatonic scale and divides into as many as 20 parts. For a short while there are 4 conductors. The video includes subtitles. It was recorded May of 2010 in the CentralWashington University Music Building Concert Hall. The Choir has also recorded YouTube videos that feature music of Claudio Monteverdi, Ola Gjeilo, John Muehleisen, Vijay Singh and Tomás Luis da Victoria.
