All members ...  moreInitially formed as part of a School-outreach program with the Quintessential Vocal Ensemble (QVE) in Newfoundland in 2009, Afterglow developed a love of 6-part a cappella music and began searching for new and challenging musical experiences. All members of QVE, the Singers range in disciplines from Music to Engineering to the Arts. Afterglow performs frequently throughout St. John’s, including being featured guests on CBC Radio, local television, Festival 500, as well as community concerts and fundraisers. The group writes their own arrangements and began presenting full concerts last spring. Afterglow was one of 11 groups selected world-wide to partake in the Small Vocal Ensembles component of international biennial Festival 500 in July 2011. This will include masterclasses and individual coaching sessions with Bob Chilcott and Finnish group, Rajaton. We provide music for all occasions, such as private parties, corporate functions, weddings, birthdays, etc., with a varied repertoire in the style of The Manhattan Transfer, New York Voices, The Real Group, Singers Unlimited, The Swingle Singers, Take Six and others. Clearly Vocal was selected as one of seven groups to compete in the 2010 Rocky Mountain Harmony Sweepstakes in Denver, Colorado. As winners of the 2010 Contemporary A Cappella League Showcase, Clearly Vocal was a featured group at the SoJam A Cappella Festival in Durham, North Carolina, November 12 & 13, 2010.  less

We are based in Chicago's western suburbs. ECU performs two major concerts each season with full professional orchestra musicians and pro soloists, and also a mini-concert of our Singers in solos and duets with piano. We often appear as featured guest artists with Elmhurst Symphony and in local appearances. Our outstanding volunteer Singers come from throughout the Chicago area for a unique musical experience. Our conductor James MacDonald has directed choirs and orchestras throughout the U.S. and overseas, and teaches conducting and music theory.
