Goal of ...  moreThe Youth Choir Melissanthi was founded as the Children’s Choir of Alexandria Municipality in 1987 aiming to the creation of a youth Musical cradle in the town and so far has become a major attraction for children and young people of the city. Goal of the Choir is equally the choral and Music development of its members and the contribution to the cultural development of Alexandria and the surrounding area. Although it started as a small ensemble singing monophonic or at best diphone melodies without instrumental accompaniment, today has more than 80 choristers, mostly girls, 10-25 years old, and interprets as a triphonic Choir almost all kinds of Music, with an emphasis on the Music of the nations and Greek composers. EnChor began singing together in the fall of 2005. We are an auditioned group of approximately 32 singers, coming from a broad cross section of the Calgary and area community. EnChor proudly highlights the work of Canadian artists, and includes Canadian content in every concert. An important part of our directive is to collaborate with fellow Calgary artists. We have shared our concerts with Paul Rumbolt and Friends, Players Ensemble, The Calgary Men’s Chorus, the Calgary Renaissance Singers, Foothills Brass, One Accord, Youth EnChor, Corps Bara Dance Theatre, Cum Vino Cantus, UofC Orchestra, Calgary jazz Musician Gerry Hebert, and story-teller Jan McLean.  less

The Choir gives and annual Easter and Christmas performance, an annual Summer Concert and European Tour. Their repertoire ranges from Handel’s Zadok the Priest to Karl Jenkin’s The Armed Man. The Choir has performed in many major venues around in Europe, including St Nicolas Church Prague to St Mark’s Venice, and has sung in many commercial concerts including premiere of James Brett’s Book of Dreams and performed for the Queen’s arrival at Bushy Park during her Majesty’s Golden Jubilee, where the Choir also deputised for the Opera Babes. The singers in the Choir are experienced Musicians, many having sung with other Choirs and choral societies and many are instrumentalists and instrumental Music teachers.
