A perennial competitor on the international stage, The Alliance Chorus has qualified for the Barbershop Harmony Society (BHS) International Competition every year since its’ formation in 1999. Ever “In Tune With Excellence”, The Alliance competed this past Summer in Las Vegas finishing 15th in the world, and in previous years has finished as high as 4th place! In addition to the competition circuit, The Alliance Chorus also has had many opportunities to give back and perform for the Community. E’ con questa convinzione che nel 1995 nasce il Soul Singers Gospel Choir e nel tempo, Candy Patricia Cauilan, già cantante del coro universitario “Philippine Madrigal Singers”, tra i più rinomati e premiati complessi di musica polifonica nel panorama internazionale nonchè cuore, mente e direttrice dal gesto essenziale e dal gusto interpretativo adeguato, crea una formazione che ad oggi conta circa 30 elementi. Ad essa va aggiunta una formazione strumentale che riesce ad esaltare tutta la carica prorompente della musica Gospel. Il repertorio è stato, via via perfezionato affinando in particolare la vocalità con freschezza e dinamicità musicale. La conferma di questo positivo rinnovamento è stata anche sottolineata dal lusinghiero successo ottenuto nella tourné svoltasi in Francia nel 2002. We accomplish our mission by combining the power of women's experience with musical expression in the following ways: 1) each season we commission one new piece for women's voices from a female composer; 2) each season, we research, uncover and perform a work for women's voices by a female composer who has been overlooked in music history; 3) we provide an annual scholarship to one girl to sing with the Phoenix Girl's Chorus and 4) each season, we perform two annual concerts and a variety of local performances in our communities and schools.  less

In 1985 the choir became an Oakham House society open to Ryerson students, faculty and...  moreThe choir was founded in 1984 as a result of the efforts of Marie Dowler of Ryerson's English department and became a success under the direction of Matthew Jaskiewicz. In 1985 the choir became an Oakham House society open to Ryerson students, faculty and staff. In 1987 membership was opened to the general public. The choir is currently made up of Ryerson undergraduates and alumni, current and retired faculty members and people from all ages and walks of life in the Community. It ranges in size from 60-80 members. A core of long term members makes it possible to maintain high standards and perform a demanding repertoire. Under Matthew's direction, the choir has performed over 50 concerts and on several occasions performed at Ryerson graduation ceremonies. In 1986 the choir competed in three categories at the Kiwanis Festival, winning first place in two categories and receiving high marks in all three. The Choir was found in April 1994 and called after the central street of Kiev. The Choir acquired the status of ‘municipal’ in 1999, and has been financed by the Kievan Mayor’s Office since then. In December 2009, the ensemble became ‘academic’. From February 2011 the official name “Khreschatyk” Academic Chamber Choir. Honoured Art Worker of Ukraine Larisa Bukhonskaya was the Choir founder and its Artistic Director until 2007. Since August 2007, after winning a representative contest, Pavel Struts, previously a long-standing Coryphaeus, became the Choir’s Artistic Director. The honorary title of Distinguished Artist of Ukraine was awarded to Pavel Struts in December 2009.  less
