Since 1998, this successful and renowned choir has been directed by Matthias Beckert, conductor and lecturer in choral conducting at the University of Music Würzburg. Based on its top-class choral performances, the Monteverdi Choir Würzburg has been highly praised both in professional circles and by the media.
The Monteverdi Choir Würzburg has developed a wide concert repertoire, including major oratorio works from the Renaissance up until the present day. The choir’s performance and versatility is proven through its participation in numerous Würzburg premieres and reputable concerts with period instruments.

Usually consisting of 20 to 24 members, the Chorale focuses primarily on chamber choir repertoire and tackles a wide variety of styles, languages, and techniques. Chorale membership is reserved for students who demonstrate some level of music-reading ability, experience singing in advanced choral ensembles, and/or the potential to thrive in a small, advanced chamber choir environment. During the audition process, careful attention is given to maintaining artistic balance among the sections of the chorus. In addition to performances throughout the academic year, students in Chorale are expected to remain on campus for an additional week after the conclusion of each spring semester to perform in Baccalaureate and Commencement ceremonies and participate in end-of-year touring activities. less

During the last three years, the Choir has performed at several important venues such as the Ketevan World Sacred Music Festival and the Monte Festival in Old Goa, amongst others. The Choir has collaborated with renowned artistes from India, Asia, Europe and America, such as the Cappella della Luce Ensemble (Spain), St Ephraim Choir (Hungary), Indo Portuguese Ensemble (Portugal-India), Vandalia and the Seville Chamber Choir (Spain), the Bombay Chamber Orchestra (India) and soloists like Rocío de Frutos (Spain), Leo Rossi (Argentina), Mirjiam Munzel (Germany), Karl Luchtmayer (UK) and Sonia Shirsat (India). The Choir was initially created to unite students with a shared interest in praising the Lord through song. Soon, however, the weekly choir rehearsals became not only a meeting place, but also a refuge for those looking for a non-threatening and empowering environment. Over the years, the Choir has grown to include members of all races and Christian denominations, and celebrates not only the diversity of its members, but also that of its audiences.
UTGC has burst onto the international scene, while continuing to serve the greater Toronto community in local concerts and University events held throughout the year, like their community Christmas concert, and May's Gospelfest. Matthew Emery (b.1991) is a Canadian composer whose music has been performed across North America and has been heard on national television and radio. Emery's choral works have been performed by renowned vocal ensembles including the Vancouver Chamber Choir, Canadian Chamber Choir, choirs at the University of Louisville, University of Western Ontario, University of British Columbia and the Nova Scotia Youth Choir. Matthew currently studies with Dr. Stephen Chatman at the University of British Columbia and is published by: Alliance Music Publications, GIA Publications and Pavane Publishing.
