We train together in Vocal and choral skills as part of every session and want to explore our own sound as well as that of our Choir's. We have a strong Folk influence and a variety of pieces that keep us challenged and growing. Directed and trained by singing teacher and Choir coach Sandra Smith (www.singingandbreathing.co.uk) Throughout the pandemic we kept singing and did a short but very fun Homegrown Harmony project where all singers participated in a small group piece or a solo and recorded it. Max 6 singers! At Xmas we managed to get all the men together for a rousing a Wassail . SUMMER 2021 - WE ARE LOOKING FOR BASSES/BARIS TO JOIN US NOW!  less

The Choir was founded in 1838 by Fredrik Pacius and...  moreThe Academic Male Voice Choir of Helsinki – Akademiska Sångföreningen or Akademen in Swedish – is a Fennoswedish (i.e. Swedish-speaking) male voice student Choir based in the Finnish capital of Helsinki. The Choir was founded in 1838 by Fredrik Pacius and is the oldest extant Choir in Finland. At present, Akademen has around 60 active singers, most of whom are University students. However, quite a few choose to stay in the active Choir long after graduation, which makes for a healthy mix of youth and experience. We give concerts regularly in Finland, and travel abroad as frequently as possible. In addition to all the Scandinavian and most European countries, Akademen has been on tour in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the United States, Hong Kong, the Philippines, and Singapore. We believe that ambitious musical development can go hand-in-hand with tradition, and work enthusiastically to keep alive the dialogue between past and present.  less
