It was one of his most popular madrigals, as well as one of the most internati...  moreWeep, O Mine Eyes - John Bennet (SATB's Guide) “Weep O Mine Eyes” was first published by composer John Bennet (c. 1575-c. 1610) in his first collection of madrigals in 1599. It was one of his most popular madrigals, as well as one of the most internationally famous songs of the period. It is apparently based on John Dowland’s “Flow, my Teares”. Like Dowland’s lyrics, these lyrics express an intense melancholy of someone whose happiness has been abruptly shattered and desires to not be saved from this dark despair. The speaker wishes his death by drowning in his despair, in his tears. The expression of melancholy, and notions of darkness, neglect, Time’s cruelty, spiteful age, were themes used by Elizabethan songwriters to prefigure the stark inevitability of death, and it remained a prominent feature of English literature and music in the time of Elizabeth I and Shakespeare. The focus of our music is located in the Baltic region. Of course! Our cherished and beloved conductor Arūnas Pečiulis is from Lithuania. In 2016 we released our first own CD "Christmas in Orange" with traditional and extraordinary Christmas songs from all over the world. We are also represented with a total of three pieces on the CDs „Salzburg singt 2 - Advent" and „Salzburg singt 3 - Adventkalender" of the Salzburg Choir Association. In 2017 we made our first big trip abroad to Lithuania and Latvia, in 2018 we were one of only two „non-Lithuanian“ Choirs to take part in the Lithuanian song festival „Dainų šventė“ in Vilnius. All members ...  moreInitially formed as part of a school-outreach program with the Quintessential Vocal Ensemble (QVE) in Newfoundland in 2009, Afterglow developed a love of 6-part a cappella music and began searching for new and challenging musical experiences. All members of QVE, the singers range in disciplines from Music to Engineering to the Arts. Afterglow performs frequently throughout St. John’s, including being featured guests on CBC Radio, local television, Festival 500, as well as community concerts and fundraisers. The group writes their own arrangements and began presenting full concerts last spring. Afterglow was one of 11 groups selected world-wide to partake in the Small Vocal Ensembles component of international biennial Festival 500 in July 2011. This will include masterclasses and individual coaching sessions with Bob Chilcott and Finnish group, Rajaton.
