Music from Eastern Europe, Georgia, Africa and Jamaica etc finds its way into our repertoire. We also love to sing some beautiful classical works and Mozart, Bortniansky and Bach is much loved by The singers. The choir has built an international reputation and has made it a trademark to include newly written music in its programmes. This is thanks to The work of Knut Nystedt (b. 1915), organist, composer and conductor, who returned to Norway in 1964 after studying in The USA and started a choir at The music department of The University of Oslo. The choir continues to recruit members from The department of music, as well as from The Norwegian Academy of Music in more recent years. The American choral tradition in which Nystedt was trained emphasises The importance of new music – a practice Nystedt brought back with him to Oslo. Knut Nystedt’s music became a vital element of Schola Cantorum’s repertoire. Tone Bianca Sparre Dahl became conductor in 2002, and has furTher established The choir’s firm position in Norway’s musical life. She has continued Nystedt’s tradition of performing modern music. After only 2 months togeTher, The Heart of Scotland Choir were delighted to be given The opportunity to sing at Stirling Castle’s 2010 Hogmanay Celebrations which Then led to a spot on Ewen Cameron’s Real Radio Breakfast Show in The same week! 2011 has proved to be a phenomenal year for The HOS Choir. It has appeared in major venues in Austria, Germany, Italy, The Czech Republic, Wales...  moreThe Drake Choir is Drake University’s select touring ensemble, performing regionally on an annual basis and internationally every four years, most recently in May 2012. It has appeared in major venues in Austria, Germany, Italy, The Czech Republic, Wales, and Ireland. The ensemble regularly collaborates with The Des Moines Symphony and sang The Beethoven Ninth Symphony with that orchestra in September 2011. The Drake Choir has performed in Carnegie Hall and has been featured on The conference program of The American Choral Directors Association North Central Division. The ensemble consists of 64-70 singers who are first-year students through seniors and who represent every College of The University. Auditions for returning students take place in April and for new students during The weekend preceding The start of The fall semester. The ensemble rehearses Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, 3:30-5:00 p.m. and is conducted by Dr. Aimee Beckmann-Collier, Director of Choral Studies and Professor of Condcuting.  less

In addition to many North American cities, The choir has toured to Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Germany, Malaysia, Namibia, South Africa, Botswana, Swaziland and Zambia. Kokopelli is often The ambassador for The choir association and as such, has received several awards for Their work with youth, music education, and The African Projects Fund.
