Six Degree Singers has featured in events all around The D.C.-metro area, including The Silver Spring Loy Krathong Thai Festival and The Chesapeake-Potomac Invitational Bonspiel, an annual curling event, and was recently selected to perform in The closing concert of The Kennedy Center's National Choral Festival in 2014. I’m new to singing in choirs. Does that matter?
Absolutely not! VOCALIZE: Blackheath welcomes singers of all abilities and experiences, and The songs will be taught in a variety of ways to suit each singer.
Is it OK if I can’t read music?
It’s not a problem at all. We anticipate that some people will read music fluently, and some won’t know Their a cappella from Their ensemble. Our skilled conductors will guide you through The music in a number of different ways, and before you know it, you’ll be s... less

Since 2006, when Gary Weidenaar took The baton, The choir has received invitations to appear at four state & regional conferences:
Meticulous attention is given to performing music of various periods or parts of The world in The style appropriate to that era or culture including adjustments of not only style but tone color also.
Recent clinics with guests Chanticleer and Weston Noble have helped The choir grow and The Choir regularly premiers new works by composers.

This is thanks to The work of Knut Nystedt (b.... moreThroughout its existence The chamber choir Schola Cantorum has had high ambitions. The choir has built an international reputation and has made it a trademark to include newly written music in its programmes. This is thanks to The work of Knut Nystedt (b. 1915), organist, composer and conductor, who returned to Norway in 1964 after studying in The USA and started a choir at The music department of The University of Oslo. The choir continues to recruit members from The department of music, as well as from The Norwegian Academy of Music in more recent years.
The American choral tradition in which Nystedt was trained emphasises The importance of new music – a practice Nystedt brought back with him to Oslo. Knut Nystedt’s music became a vital element of Schola Cantorum’s repertoire.
Tone Bianca Sparre Dahl became conductor in 2002, and has furTher established The choir’s firm position in Norway’s musical life. She has continued Nystedt’s tradition of performing modern music. Schola Cantorum has a varied repert... less
