We will be presenting the bulk of our projected album at our spring concerts on May 18th and 19th. Matthew Harris's highly popular choral works have been commissioned or premiered by leading choruses such as the Dale Warland Singers, Phoenix Bach Choir, Los Angeles Chamber Singers, Western Wind, and Cantori New York, and sung by countless school and community choirs across America. His A Child's Christmas in Wales, a cantata for chorus and orchestra commissioned by Harmonium, is Performed throughout the US and the UK. Mr. Harris studied at The Juilliard School, New England Conservatory and Harvard University. He has taught at Fordham University and Kingsborough College (CUNY) and in 1988 founded Harris Musiciology. He lives and works in New York City. G. Schirmer and C. F. Peters publish his music, and Chandos, Albany, Cedille and CRI Records represent him on disc.  less

Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis (Book of Common Prayer version 1662) set to music for six part mixed voices SAT-SAT) The title of this work (Canticula Ursae Minoris/Songs of the Little Bear) comes from the origin of the melodies: Many years ago I wrote a...  moreMagnificat and Nunc Dimittis (Book of Common Prayer version 1662) set to music for six part mixed voices SAT-SAT) The title of this work (Canticula Ursae Minoris/Songs of the Little Bear) comes from the origin of the melodies: Many years ago I wrote an "Oratorio" based on Winnie the Pooh (The Expotition to the North Pole) and gave each character little melodic leitmotifs, such as "Sing ho for the life of a bear" (which becomes "to be a light to lighten the Gentiles" in the Nunc Dimittis), "They all went off to discover the pole" (which is the initial theme of the Magnificat) and "What I say, said Eeyore, is that it's unsettling" (which becomes the "Glory be to the Father" section at the end of each canticle) The original and much simpler "oratorio" work, called Poohratorio of course, may be published once AA Milne goes into public domain (2031).  less

Ces cloches parlaient d'heureuses années, et, dans le grand bois, semblaient reverdir les feuilles fanées, des jours d'autrefois. The leaves unfurled on branches so lightly delicate and soft. We are resident at St. Matthew's parish church in Chapel Allerton. We rehearsal three times a month, on a Friday evening and sing four services a month, including Evensong on the first Sunday of every month. We also often host come and sing days and various workshops, our two most recent projects have been on Buxtehude's Membra Jesu Nostri and Mozart's Requiem.
