Don't throw away your shot to join us in our milestone 25th season, including songs from Hamilton, Coldplay and Dear Evan Hansen! Are you a legal professional who's looking for a fresh way to connect with your Musical interests and like-minded legal eagles while giving back meaningfully to our community? The 80+ voice New York City Bar Chorus ("CBC") will conduct a limited number of auditions (brief, private and low-pressure), with primary focus on baritones, basses and high sopranos, for our fall 2017 cycle. We rehearse about three Tuesday evenings per month, from 7:00 to 8:30 PM, in midtown Manhattan to produce what listeners describe as a professional-quality sound, spanning Musical Theater, jazz, pop/rock, gospel and classical styles. For example, this fall's repertoire will include sophisticated arrangements of Tony- and Oscar-winning music from Hamilton, Dear Evan Hansen, The Wiz and La La Land. The Merry Poppins. Last Sunday we performed in Café De Pianist in Amsterdam. That's me in The bottom right corner playing and conducting :) We performed songs from Musicals such as Hair, Fiddler on The Roof, Sister Act, and of course Mary Poppins. Our small but talented choir consists mainly of young people. All choir members receive a first-rate Musical education. There has been a long tradition of Musical excellence at St Laurence’s. The original church, built in The 1880s, had a strong choir ...  moreOur small but talented choir consists mainly of young people. All choir members receive a first-rate Musical education. There has been a long tradition of Musical excellence at St Laurence’s. The original church, built in The 1880s, had a strong choir of men and boys who took part in The Festival of Britain services in 1951. When The new church was opened in 1968, The Musical tradition continued. A new Walker organ was installed in The church, using some pipework from The old organ and Directors of Music have included David Sanger, Professor Roger Wibberley, Paul Dewhurst, Tom Fowkes, Marcus Wibberley, Iain Simcock and Andrew Ibbotson. The current Director of Music is Huw Morgan. Girls were first admitted to The choir some ten years ago, but The choir remains unique in this part of south-east London in that it continues to use only trebles (girls and boys) on The top line. The lower parts are provided by volunteer adults from The local community. Young people receive an excellent Musical education, and ...    less
