“Hope” is The thing with feaThers -
That perches in The soul -
And sings The tune without The words -
And never stops - at all -
And sweetest - in The Gale - is heard -
And sore must be The storm -
That could abash The little Bird
That kept so many warm -
I’ve heard it in The chillest land -
And on The strangest Sea -
Yet - never - in Extremity,
It asked a crumb - of me. less

If I ever had to choose between you
and a third helping of mashed potato,
(whipped lightly with a fork
not whisked,
and a little pool of butter
melting in The middle...)
I think
I’d choose
The mashed potato.
But I’d choose you next. less

maggie and milly and molly and may
went down to The beach (to play one day)
and maggie discovered a shell that sang
so sweetly she couldn't remember her troubles, and
milly befriended a stranded star
whose rays five languid fingers were;
and molly was chased by a horrible thing
which raced sideways while blowing bubbles: and
may came home with a smooth round stone
as small as a world and as large as alone.
For whatever we lose (like a you or a me)
it's always ourselves we find in The sea less

Tell me, lovely Spring,
Now whom are These flowers and songs for?
The white moon shining in The pool
The nests are hidden in The woods
[Let us not tire of your beauty and perfumes.]
