Described as ‘a fine body of singers’ by John Packwood in The Bristol Evening Post, They have delighted audiences with Their fresh, inspiring interpretations of choral repertory from many centuries. Members of The Choir come from many parts of The UK for intensive weekends of music-making, culminating in concerts acclaimed for Their invigorating choral sound, clarity of tone and texture, and innovative programming. In June 2010 Harmonia Sacra were invited to perform a programme of music by early seventeenth-century English Recusant musicians (including William Byrd, Richard Dering and Peter Philips) for a Swansea University History conference at Oystermouth. It was one of his most popular madrigals, as well as one of The most internationally famous songs of The period. It is apparently based on John Dowland’s “Flow, my Teares”. Like Dowland’s lyrics, These lyrics express an intense melancholy of someone whose happiness has been abruptly shattered and desires to not be saved from this dark despair. The speaker wishes his death by drowning in his despair, in his tears. The expression of melancholy, and notions of darkness, neglect, Time’s cruelty, spiteful age, were Themes used by Elizabethan songwriters to prefigure The stark inevitability of death, and it remained a prominent feature of English literature and music in The time of Elizabeth I and Shakespeare. Following on from The formation of a Birralee Tenth Anniversary Alumni Choir in 2005, Resonance of Birralee was formed under The leadership of Paul Holley. The young people involved represent a variety of professions and a significant number are tertiary students. They share a common love of singing and in many cases are accomplished musicians. One of Their strengths as an ensemble is Their expertise and appreciation of a broad range of music styles and Their ability to adapt Their programme to suit any event. In 2008 Resonance competed at The World Choir Games in Graz, Austria, where They won Gold and Silver medals in popular vocal and gospel categories. Eliza’s Toyes was born, and existed every summer in Madison, Wisconsin. In 2008, a fair number of singers who were in Eliza's Toyes are living in Madison once again.
