In...  moreWe are a historic symphonic chorus that continues to play a vibrant role in the cultural life of the National Capital Region. With approximately 100-115 auditioned members and a professional core of 12 voices,the Choir's repertoire spans 6+ centuries . In addition to our annual subscription series, we sing with both the National Arts Centre Orchestra and the Ottawa Symphony Orchestra . The Choir has made five international tours to Italy, Spain, Germany and the Czech Republic and the United Kingdom and Ireland . Following an extensive search which attracted a roster of highly- accomplished choral directors, the impressive and charismatic young conductor and keyboard artist, Jordan de Souza, was appointed Artistic Director and Principal Conductor in July, 2013. St Stephen’s has a strong Musical tradition with ...  moreIn the ancient village of Hackington, now a suburb approximately a mile north-east of the centre of Canterbury, St Stephen’s Church is home to one of the leading church Choirs in the Canterbury Diocese. St Stephen’s has a strong Musical tradition with two choral services each Sunday throughout the year (except August when the Choir has a well deserved break – but usually sing elsewhere for a number of days). Music is sung from across the centuries, ranging from plainsong dating back hundreds of years right through to contemporary works by composers such as John Tavener and Arvo Pärt, including works written especially for us.  less

The first of the three verses is sung in German, the second in Korean, the last in English - so each Choir has to learn to pronounce the language of the other, an adventure! With simple, poetic words, "Song without borders" deals with the chance of children to create a future worth living for the adults of tomorrow through mobility, empathy and energy. The Music to it illustrates in the first verse the sea as a metaphor of eternal movement, in the second the feeling together, in the third the positive action of holding together.  less
