The fabulous amazing spectacular Carol Stenson is their long standing director. South Salem took FIRST PLACE at Oregon's State Competition. This was their second song of four. This whole competition took place at George Fox University in Newburg Oregon. The South Salem Saxons also took first at their Districts festival in Salem/Keizer Oregon. The Saskatoon Chamber Singers was founded in 1977 by a group of former Greystone Singers (University of Saskatchewan) who wanted to continue singing in a quality choral ensemble. The choir has been a finalist in both the CBC choral competition for amateur...  moreThe Saskatoon Chamber Singers was founded in 1977 by a group of former Greystone Singers (University of Saskatchewan) who wanted to continue singing in a quality choral ensemble. The choir has been a finalist in both the CBC choral competition for amateur choirs and the International Choral Kathaumixw in Powell River, British Columbia, and participated in the non-competitive Festival 500 in St. John’s, Newfoundland. It has also been the guest choir at Saskatchewan Sings, and sang at the installation of Lynda Haverstock (a former member) as Lieutenant-Governor of Saskatchewan. In 2010, the choir performed at Podium, the biennial conference of the Association of Canadian Choral Communities, held in Saskatoon. The choir’s repertoire has been rich in variety since its establishment, and Canadian music has always been an important component of its programming. We welcome experienced SATB Singers who are keen to perform music of all genres to a High standard in an informal environment. Our ethos: CONTEXT Historical, social and environmental contexts of music, and the influence of these on performance, will be central to rehearsals and concerts. They will define the themes of our repertoire each year. COLLABORATION Based in Leeds, the choir has numerous opportunities to collaborate with other ensembles, composers and charities to promote and support musicians throughout the North. We hope to work with a variety of musicians to develop quality and future collaboration within the choir. COMMUNICATION No music?! Yes, we will perform without sheet music in concerts.
