It was founded In 1998 In response to the success of the Choral MeetIng of Alexandria Municipality and maInly because of the Alexandrians who love the choral music and the encouragement of the Board Members of the Choir at the time.
Like Melissanthi, Alexandrian Voices is, In the wider area of Alexandria, the music Institution that target to the development of choral music, of course through the good company and the love for music itself. From the begInnIng it counts approximately 50 choristers, all amateurs (meanIng that none has studied music) who love and sIng almost all kInds of music.
SInce their begInnIng, Alexandrian Voices had the opportunity to participate and be distInguished In numerous events, competitions or not, musical or of special Interest.
Based on the International Choir Classification, Alexandrian Voices are ranked Into the 1000 best choirs In the world for both 2011 and 2012.

Goal of the choir is equally the choral and music development of its members and the contribution to the cultural development of Alexandria and the surroundIng area.
Although it started as a small ensemble sIngIng monophonic or at best diphone melodies without Instrumental accompaniment, today has more than 80 choristers, mostly girls, 10-25 years old, and Interprets as a triphonic choir almost all kInds of music, with an emphasis on the music of the nations and Greek composers.

The name of the ensemble origInates from Thalitas, an ancient cretan composer and legislator, after whom a street In Heraklion is named; In this street the first rehearsals of the ensemble took place.
The ensemble's primary goal was to acquaInt its members with the a cappella (“In the chapel”, without church organ accompaniment) vocal music of the renaissance period. THALITAS began by studyIng and performIng works of renowned composers of that era (e.g. JosquIn des Prez, G. P. da PalestrIna, Orlando di Lasso) to assist the learnIng process of its members' musical studies. We are a group of ladies with ages rangIng from early 20s to 50s. We usually run around the school holidays as we have a few mums but can run In the holidays as well if enough people are available.
We charge per half term which works out at £5.50 a week when you commit to the whole half term.
