Its creative efforts and dynamic development in 1999 permitted the Choir under the sponsorship of t...  moreThe POKROFF (translation: Protection of the Virgin Mary) Chamber Choir was set up in 1993 by its director and trumpeter andrey Goryachev as a Church Choir. Its creative efforts and dynamic development in 1999 permitted the Choir under the sponsorship of the Voice of Russia Radio Company to record its first CD – “Divinity in Sound”. Two more CDs were recorded in 2003 and 2005, devoted to Christmas and Easter. Since 2000 the Choir began touring not only in Russia but also abroad, visiting Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, France, Italy, Ukraine, Moldavia, Croatia, Montenegro, BiH and Estonia. The Choir also took part in television shows in Russia and abroad, such as in the “Bregenzer Advent” in 2002. Apart from regular concerts and recordings, the Choir also minds it spiritual roots, regularly taking part in Church services, both routine and special ceremonial, such as Episcopal services at which it frequently performs. The Choir calls the Salt Lake Tabernacle, which houses an organ with 11,000+ pipes, home. The Choir has won many awards, including an Emmy and Grammy award, sang for 10 US Presidents, and hosts the longest continual broadcast Music and the Spoken Word (which airs live every Sunday at 9:30am Mountain Standard Time). In over 25 years, nearly 400 people from all backgro...  moreChoir members are based all over the United Kingdom, and we come together only when we rehearse and sing at a Cathedral city. We do not belong to any particular geographical area or Church denomination. In over 25 years, nearly 400 people from all backgrounds have sung with us - often for the first time in an English Cathedral. The number continues to grow year by year. Martin Hall, our founder, became 'Director Emeritus' in Autumn 2006 and Matthew O' Donovan took over the post of Director in his stead. Because of the way we meet, we don't require formal auditions in advance, but new singers are expected to be excellent sight readers and to have a good choral tone.  less
