From the composer, Gordon Hamilton: during my Piano studies, one of my favourite pieces was Michael Tippett's Second Piano Sonata, which uses his disjunct mosaic form: instead of music flowing, through a logical sequence of harmony, melody and tempo, he (and other composers, including Stravinsky, Messiaen and my own teacher Butterley) created tiny fragments of music -- totally contrasting in character -- which cascade into each other: an aural mosaic.
Tra$h Ma$h is a piece made up entirely of musical quotes lifted directly from modern pop songs and mashed together using the Tippet technique (perfect for our 21st century attention spans!)
Deep down, I Love trashy pop, and the singers in The Australian Voices are mostly under 21. We had a whole lot of parties to find the best (and worst) songs of 2011 to mash together in a kind of 60's disjunct treatment of pop, chopping it up and sticking it back together in a way that was never intended. I think it can be ridiculous an... less

In May, 2013, composer Ola Gjeilo spent 3 days on the Central Washington University Campus to join the choir in recording 4 of his pieces. The other three were "Sanctus", "Luminous Night of the Soul", and "Vast Eternal Skies"
This performance of Gjeilo's "Ubi Caritas II" is from that session, which included a rendition of the piece sung in in its published (unaccompanied) version as well.
This was Mr. Gjeilo's second time on our campus, the first was in the spring of 2011, which resulted in 5 videos and a DVD (http://goo.gl/Xld0o)
As of 2013, the CWU Chamber Choir also has recorded videos of the music of Byrd, Monteverdi, Muehleisen, Singh, Victoria, and Rautavaara on YouTube.

There were plums and prunes and cherries
There were raisins and currants and cinnamon too.
There were nuts and cLoves and berries
but the crust it was stuck on with glue.
There were caraway seeds in abundance,
It would give yer a fine stomach ache
'Twould kill any man twice to be eatin'
A slice of Mrs Hooligan's Christmas cake.
As I sat in me window last evenin'
A letterman came unto me.
He'd a nice little neat invitation
Sayin' "Won't you come over to tea?"
I knew it was Hooligan sent it
So I went for our friendship's sake
And the first thing he gave me to tackle
Was a slice of Mrs. Hooligan's cake.

Pokarekare Ana was originally written in 1912 as a bid to win the heart of Paraire Henare Tomoana's beLoved, Kuini Ripeka Ryland. Paraire had fallen in Love with Kuini but her family refused to give their blessing to a marriage between the two. A Lovelorn Paraire composed Pokarekare Ana in which he vowed his eternal Love. He declared this passion by singing Pokarekare Ana at Te Poho-o-Rawiri Marae to Kuini in front of her Ngati Porou elders. The family was won over by his convincing performance and granted him their daughter's hand.
How placid are the ripples of restless Waiapu,
Dear they know of your returning,
from far across the sea.
Dear Heart of mine,
I'll wait for thee,
My Love is thine alone,
to eternity.
This outdoor performance was the culmination of a six-week project which creates a choir from scratch for one night only. Each winter and summer, Chris Rowbury gathers a random bunch of singers from in and around Ipswich. There are no auditions and all s... less
