Stars that spill on a melting stem
of brilliance down to earth,
make landfall here like swans
who are burnt by flight.
We find an orphan of ashes,
a child of chilled obsidian:
in the middle of winter we nurture
the seeds of stars.
On days of silver light
at the end of summer,
they’ll lift away to resume
their long migration.
You who’ve been told
there’s nothing, nothing to be done,
you who have come to a place
of broken stones,
remember us
who have sparked a star from dust,
and seen its wings ignite
the darkling sky. less

We are the music makers,
And we are the dreamers of dreams,
Wandering by lone sea-breakers,
And sitting by desolate streams;—
World-losers and World-forsakers,
On whom the pale moon gleams:
Yet we are the movers and shakers
Of the World for ever, it seems. less

today, this spring
Is time for walking on the soft earth
In sounds that sweeten the air
And reach beyond the long dark sleep;
For sun to warm the cheek,
And quicken breath;
A time to shed the griefs
That brown the spirit of beginning;
to trust the restless energy
Demanding space and speak of life,
My own, which recreates itself in you. less

YaLaLay is a celebration, the words imply "woohoo!".
This SAATTBB arrangement may be performed by 3 men and 3 women's voices in a variety of settings- from voices only (with small adaptation for the musical breaks- instrumental parts may be represented by vocal treatment) to vocals with drums, vocals with piano, and on up to full orchestration.
Perfect as a concert opener or finale, the energy generated from this piece makes it a versatile inclusion in standard repertoire for choirs who want to be challenged musically but have a lot of fun in the process. It can be a quick learn to master the basics, but developing the finer points, swoops, stomps, and vocal noises will give the most insatiable appetite something on which to delight their (and their audiences') aural appetite.
