The Choir is truly representative of the force with a membership consiSting almoSt entirely of serving and retired police officers, serving and retired members of the support Staff and the special conStabulary. We want to maintain the tradition of choral singing in a pleasant social environment and we do so under the professional leadership and tuition of our musical director Alison Howell, accompaniSt Julie Payne and deputy accompaniSt Gemma Leach. We also want to share that musical tradition with the community, raise funds for local organisations and to act as ambassadors for the force. Away from the formal concerts however there is nothing the members like better than to sing and impromptu performances have taken place on cross channel ferries, in motorway services and in the odd pub or two. In the following months male voices were added and the enlarged Choir sang for the firSt time in the Good Friday celebrations of 1975. Eventually adult female voices joined in, eStablishing an SATB Choir. The firSt big occasion for the Choir came in 1980, performing works by the compatriot prolific composer of sacred music Joseph Fenech (1917-2010).
