The ensemble aims to promote artistic excellence in choral music ranging from classical to popular. It also aims to provide an opportunity for passionate singers to discover the voice as a singing instrument, develop high-level musical skills related to choral singing, influence choral music appreciation, develop cultural awareness, use choral music as a tool for change in building a better community, and finally, to represent Eastern Visayas in both local and international choral scenes. The Sinirangan believes that everyone can enjoy choral music and hopes to CONnect people of diverse backgrounds and ages to this extraordinary art form. We ...  moreThe Island CONsort Chamber Choir is a 20-voice community chamber choir that first appeared in CONcert in late April 2007. Its repertoire is varied and loosely “classical”, focusing on sacred and secular music of the Renaissance and Baroque periods. We rehearse Monday evenings from 7:30 to 9:30. This is an auditioned group with CONsiderable musical and choral experience, one that aspires to a higher standard of performance. Our members include amateur and professional musicians, choir directors and music educators. Prospective members may audition from time to time as positions come open. CONtact the choir if you have an interest in joining. We perform mostly a cappella pieces, but many of our CONcerts include accompaniment by members of the Nanaimo Chamber Orchestra and organ.  less

They specialise in modern musical theatre and performance but also sing other genres including pop and gospel. The choir's music is arranged by choir leader Nicole Dawson who is a trained composer and arranger. Rehearsals are every Wednesday at 7.30pm at Priory Hall, Christchurch and the choir perform regularly all over the South Coast. With a large repertoire ranging from art to popular music, and stretching from the medieval to the CONtemporary in style, this choir gives many CONcerts throughout the academic year, both in Ireland and abroad. Following a competitive selection process each September, eighteen gifted students are awarded a scholarship, with recipients of the award coming from a range of academic disciplines across the university, from Music to Medicine, Law, Agricultural Science, Commerce and Engineering. The choir regularly broadcasts on Irish television and radio. Since its formation in 1999, the group frequently performs with orchestras, including the RTÉ CONcert Orchestra, the Earley Musicke Ensemble and the European Union Chamber Orchestra, and on the university campus with the UCD Symphony Orchestra and Philharmonic Choir. This choir is partnered with a non-profit organization called the New York Community Alliance for Sickle Cell Anemia Inc. We plan to use our CONcert venues for aiding this organization's cause. Our CONductor John Hunter II is a young but competent CONductor. He received his Master's in Choral CONducting from Mansfield University.
