Since 1998, this successful and renowned Choir has been directed by Matthias Beckert, conductor and lecturer in choral conducting at the University of Music Würzburg. Based on its top-class choral performances, the Monteverdi Choir Würzburg has been highly praised both in professional circles and by the media. The Monteverdi Choir Würzburg has developed a wide Concert repertoire, including major oratorio works from the Renaissance up until the present day. The Choir was initially created to unite students with a shared interest in praising the Lord through song. Soon, however, the weekly Choir rehearsals became not only a meeting place, but also a refuge for those looking for a non-threatening and empowering environment. Over the years, the Choir has grown to include members of all races and Christian denominations, and celebrates not only the diversity of its members, but also that of its audiences. UTGC has burst onto the international scene, while continuing to serve the greater Toronto community in local Concerts and University events held throughout the year, like their community Christmas Concert, and May's Gospelfest.
