The Cwmbach Choir was formed in 1921, and has survived to the present day even though it was severely tested by periods of hardship, depression and the Second World War. During it's 90 years it has flourished and built up an enviable record of success...  more The Cwmbach Choir was formed in 1921, and has survived to the present day even though it was severely tested by periods of hardship, depression and the Second World War. During it's 90 years it has flourished and built up an enviable record of success in competitions and concert performances. Its success in competition,particularly eisteddfodau, was established in its early days. The first taste of success was second prize at Treorchy in 1928, followed by Cardiff in 1938 and Ebbw Vale in 1958. The first prize was ultimately achieved at Port Talbot in 1966 and repeated in 1968 at Barry. During the 1950's when the Although in recent times the Choir has not been nearly as active in the competitive arena, it was successful in taking First prize in the Male Choir competition at the Limerick Festival of 1996 in Ireland. Spera means hope in Latin, and it is a members’ shared vision on music. All members studied a sacred choral music under Koji Oguchi, Choir director, when they were high school students. They were deeply touched by Oguchi’s music and established the Ensemble Choir SPERA. Making its debut in concert in March 2014 at Tokyo Opera City Recital Hall, SPERA’s music was highly prized and well-reviewed in newspapers. It serves in Masses and services and performs in concerts as an ecumenical Choir, composed of students from Kitasato University, International Christian University, Hitotsubashi University and Rikkyo University. In 2012, the birth...  moreFrom the desire of some now grown-up boys, coming from the most diverse singing experiences, the Priamo Gallisay Male Choir was born in 2007 which immediately characterized itself for an unusual repertoire in the Nuoro musical panorama. In 2012, the birth of the Priamo Gallisay Cultural Association completes the cultural path desired by the founders. The Corale has about 30 members among its ranks.

We as a Choir are proud to be mentioned in Under Milk Wood, when the question is asked, “How’s the Tenors in Dowlais” One of our favourite songs has to be the Rev Eli Jenkins’ Sunset Poem from Under Milk Wood. If you want to hear the “Tenors in Dowlais” please listen to this recording, done recently in our practice hall.
