Launched in 2006, this Choir for treble and changing voices continues to expand its horizons, develop its membership and satisy a variety of musical tastes. The Choir has toured throughout British Columbia and Alberta. In July 2011, they sang in Ottawa at the Unisong festival for Canada Day, and in July 2013 the group was featured at the presitigious and exciting international Festival 500 in St. John’s, Newfoundland. Wherever the Choir travels, we spread the joy of music-making and hope to bring communities together through song.
Shumayela offers a focus on thorough and excellent music education, with singers learning about healthy vocal production, the body-voice connection, and vibrant performance presence as well as a strong emphasis on musical literacy, music theory, and sightsinging skills. As with all our ensembles, Shumayela provides a secure and accepting social environment where all singers feel their importance as members of the group... less

The Choir currently has around 30 members, with Martin Weston as musical director.
The Choir's repertoire is wide and varied, with many songs taken from shows and films. We also sing sacred, gospel, jazz, pop and world music, with the odd novelty number thrown in!

PG Carnivalesque" under the patronage of Prof. Krzysztof Wilde, rector of Gdańsk Tech, attracted several hundred people who listened to daring performances of popular pop music hits. During the performance we heard choral arrangements of hits such as: "Dancing Queen", "Memory", "California Dreamin'" and "Maria". This time it was not Mozart or Bach, but ABBA, Queen and songs from the musical West Side Story that graced the walls of the Gdansk University of Technology in carnivalesque musical artistic creations.
Jazz musicians performed along with the Choir, and the musical effects were accompanied by a unique lighting arrangement, which required appropriate space and audience arrangement.
The more-than-hour-long performance by the Academic Choir of the Gdańsk University of Technology, conducted by Prof. Mariusz Mróz and accompanied by musicians from the Music Academy in Bydgoszcz, ended with joint singing, encores and a standing ovation. less

Lyrics in English
1 Lamp of our feet, whereby we trace Our path when wont to stray,
Stream from the fount of heavenly grace,
Brook by the traveller's way;
2 Bread of our souls, whereon we feed,
True manna from on high,
Our guide and chart, wherein we read Of realms beyond the sky;
3 Pillar of fire through watches dark, And radiant cloud by day,
When waves would whelm our tossing bark, Our anchor and our stay;
4 Word of the ever-living God, Will of his glorious Son,
Without thee how could earth be trod, Or Heaven itself be won?
5 Lord, grant that we aright may learn The wisdom it imparts,
And to its heavenly teaching turn
With simple, childlike hearts.

Lord, now lettest thou thy servant
depart in peace
according to thy word.
For mine eyes have seen
thy salvation,
Which thou hast prepared before
the face of all people;
To be a light to lighten
the Gentiles
and to be the glory of
thy people Israel.
Glory be to the
Father
and to the Son
and to the Holy Ghost
As it was in
the beginning
Is now and ever
shall be
World without end
