The Vancouver choir has become known for technical virtuosity, fine blend and exceptionally High performance standards encompassing 500 years of choral repertoire. VCS has been awarded the Canada Council’s top prize in choral singing, the Healey Willan Grand Prize, more than any other choir in the country. Led by Paula Kremer since 2013, VCS also commissions new works from critically acclaimed composers which have led to extremely successful and innovative collaborations with regional and international artists and ensembles.  less

We do a wide variety of music from Renaissance to contemporary and from a Cappella to works with chamber orchestra. We are a fun loving, very friendly group. However, our music comes first and hard work is required of all. An audition is required. Our Music Director is William R. Thomas.

We are a mixed-voice choir of around 30 Singers, performing a wide variety of secular and sacred "classical"; choral music. We mainly sing a Cappella, and tend to focus on lesser-known older works, and modern repertoire, often from living composers. However, this is by no means exclusive! The choir sings three main concerts per year, with a charity carol concert just before Christmas. We are also a sociable bunch, with regular social events and a number of 'spin-off' groups.  less

Five classically trained female Singers combine their flexible voices and powerful stage presentation in their own unique way. Seemingly effortless and simple, every gesture and every sound used to good effect, adventurous from beginning to end. The Singers sang together in the Netherlands Youth Choir. They hit it off so well there that the ambition developed to continue together in female a Cappella repertoire; a relatively rare genre very dear to the hearts of all five. The top quality displayed since by Wishful Singing – both aurally and visually – makes the ensemble unique in the world. The repertoire ranges from modest works from the Renaissance and Baroque eras to swinging versions of golden oldies such as Mister Sandman. The choir has a High calibre of Singers drawn by its demanding musical standard and the opportunity to explore recently created music. Among the group's twenty-four members are piano and voice teachers, soloists, choir directors, organists and others with musical training. The ensemble has previously reached the quarter- and semi-finals of the CBC Radio Competition for Amateur Choirs. In May 2010, they were awarded second place in the chamber choir category of the National Competition for Canadian Amateur Choirs. They have performed twice at Podium, Canada's national choral conference, most recently in May 2014 in Halifax.  less
