Two points of note:
First, the composition grew out of the feeling that all 4 voices should start on the same note, grow outwards and then come back to that same note at the end. the rest just seemed to evolve on its own, seemingly guided by some external force.
Second, unusually, I have asked choirs (where possible) to sing this without any breaks, via staggered breathing, as I wanted to highlight the deep conviction underlying the words of the Psalm, as one single thread of deep belief that moves from beginning to end.
Sincere thanks to Matthew Curtis (Choraltracks.com) for recording "Psalm 23."
As always, comments are welcomed. Email me at rain@magma.ca, if you'd like more info.
I would like to acknowledge the a cappella choir that I sing in, the Stairwell Carollers, and our director Pierre Massie, for their musical inspiration these past 26 years.

In May, 2013, composer Ola Gjeilo spent 3 days on the Central Washington University Campus to join the choir in recording 4 of his pieces. the other three were "Sanctus", "Luminous Night of the Soul", and "Vast Eternal Skies"
This performance of Gjeilo's "Ubi Caritas II" is from that session, which included a rendition of the piece sung in in its published (unaccompanied) version as well.
This was Mr. Gjeilo's second time on our campus, the first was in the spring of 2011, which resulted in 5 videos and a DVD (http://goo.gl/Xld0o)
As of 2013, the CWU Chamber Choir also has recorded videos of the music of Byrd, Monteverdi, Muehleisen, Singh, Victoria, and Rautavaara on YouTube.

CONTINUUM is the newest and most dynamic early music ensemble on the UK classical music scene.
Under the collaborative leadership of top producer and director Adrian Peacock, the internationally renowned expert in Spanish early music Bruno Turner, and bass-baritone Jamie W. Hall, CONTINUUM brings together twelve of the finest professional consort singers in London, carefully chosen to produce a unique and vibrant sound that celebrates the very best qualities of the English Choral tradition and the powerful beauty of the uninhibited human voice.
This all-male ensemble has made 16th century Spanish sacred polyphony and chant the core of its repertoire, and seeks to perform this wonderful music at the original, sonorous low pitch as it would have been heard in Spanish cathedrals and religious institutions during Spain's "Golden Age".
